Yesterday rumours said that bad weather was approaching Swansea and that gave us a good reason to have a BBQ. I volunteered to be the fire starter and got coal, matches and an old telephone catalog. Aw, it was a disaster! The coal just did not want to burn although I am sure I did a good job building the base with enough paper (telephone pages) air and coal. In the end I even had out the air bed pump to give it a bit of a kick but that only caused an ash storm. Rubbish! I got some assistance too but we just couldn't make it lit so we gave up. Will do it the way it's usually done in Norway, forget about the paper just pour a bit of that liquid which make anything burn and TAD AA!! the BBQ is on fire without any hassle☺Had no more time for that BBQ so I just took a sweet escape leaving someone else to clean up the mess :p
PS! I usually never give up on anything but since we had guests coming over for dinner I thought it was best to just leave it and rather bake cake instead....and that worked out just fine :)
One of my best friend from Norway gave me this recipe for apple cake and it is nice and very easy to do. I combine the instructions with some of the tips my incredible nan has given me. No problems doing it at all and you can keep a smile on your face during the whole process ;)
Here it goes:
You need: 3 eggs, 1 ts baking powder, some drops of vanilla essence, 150g flour, 150g butter, 150g sugar, a couple of cooking apples, cinnamon.
Peal the apples and cut them into slices. Then put them into a bag and add a bit of sugar and cinnamon. Close the bag and shake it. The sugar and cinnamon will get attached to the apples.
Melt the butter and stir it in with the 150g sugar. Stir it properly till it is almost white. Then add the eggs one by one and stir after each egg is in. Add the vanilla essence, baking powder and the flour and stir till it is nice and smooth.
Add the apples to the cake mix and then put it in a cake form and bake it in the oven for around 40-45min on 180 degrees. Remember butter for the cake form so it doesn't get stuck.
And then VOA LA!
Serve the cake warm and fresh with some ice cream. I can recommend Joe's Vanilla Ice Cream it is amazing!
